Who you’re dealing with

Back In The Running is the trading name of Mark Grayson, a sole trader providing running injury assessment, running technique analysis, rehabilitation coaching, run coaching and strength & conditioning coaching.

Professional membership: The ISRM

By booking, you’re agreeing to these terms. They’re written in plain English on purpose — if anything is unclear, ask me before you book rather than after.

What the service is

I assess running injuries and running technique, and I build a plan to get you back to running.

Depending on what you’ve booked, that involves some combination of: reviewing the information and video you send me beforehand, a video consultation, analysis of your running technique, a written report, and a rehabilitation or training programme.

What you’ll get is set out when you book. If you’re unsure what’s included, ask.

What the service is not

This matters more than anything else here, so I’d rather be blunt.

  • It is not emergency or urgent care. If you’re seriously injured, in severe pain, or something feels badly wrong, contact NHS 111, your GP, or in an emergency call 999.
  • It is not a medical diagnosis. I’m not a doctor. I assess movement, load and function, and where something needs medical investigation I’ll tell you and recommend you see your GP.
  • It does not replace medical care you’re already receiving. If you’re under a consultant, physiotherapist or GP for this problem, tell me, and keep seeing them.
  • Remote assessment has real limits. I can’t examine you by hand. I’m working from what you tell me and what I can see on video, and there are things that simply cannot be assessed that way. Where I think you need hands-on assessment, I’ll say so — even if that means telling you I’m not the right person.

I don’t promise outcomes. Nobody honestly can. What I promise is a considered assessment based on the evidence and on what you’ve shown me.

What I need from you

The assessment is only as good as what you send me, so:

  • Answer the intake questions honestly and fully, including the health screening. If you leave something out, I may reach the wrong conclusion.
  • Tell me about any medical conditions, medications, or symptoms that seem unrelated. Let me decide what’s relevant.
  • Send usable video, following the filming instructions. If the footage isn’t usable I’ll ask you to refilm before I can complete the analysis.
  • Tell me if things change — if symptoms worsen significantly between booking and your appointment, let me know.

If you don’t provide what’s needed, I may not be able to complete the assessment. See the cancellation section for what happens then.

Booking and payment

  • Payment is taken at the time of booking, through Stripe. I don’t see or store your card details.
  • Prices are shown on the website. I’m not currently VAT registered, so there’s no VAT to add.
  • Your appointment isn’t confirmed until payment has gone through.

Cancelling, rescheduling and refunds

Your right to cancel — 14 days

Because you’re booking online, you have a legal right under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 to cancel within 14 days of booking and receive a full refund.

One important exception. If you ask me to start the service within that 14-day window — which includes me reviewing your intake form and video, or holding your appointment — and I complete it, you lose the right to cancel once it’s been fully performed. If I’ve started but not finished, you can still cancel and I’ll refund you minus a fair amount for the work already done.

You’ll be asked to confirm you understand this when you book. That’s a legal requirement, not a formality.

To cancel, email hello@backintherunning.co.uk.

After 14 days, or once the service has started

  • More than 48 hours’ notice: reschedule free, or a full refund
  • Less than 48 hours’ notice: I’ll reschedule where I reasonably can, but I can’t refund
  • Not turning up: the fee is not refundable

If I have to cancel

If I have to cancel or reschedule, you choose: a new appointment, or a full refund. If I can’t deliver what you paid for, you get your money back.

If I can’t help you

If, having seen your information, I don’t think I’m the right person — for example it needs hands-on assessment or medical investigation — I’ll tell you and refund you in full. I’d rather lose the fee than take money for something I can’t do properly.

Safety

  • Stop if something hurts sharply, or gets worse. Discomfort during rehab is normal; sharp or escalating pain isn’t.
  • Anything I give you is based on the information you gave me. If your circumstances change, it may no longer be appropriate — check in with me.
  • Get medical clearance first if you have a heart condition, chest pain, dizziness, or any condition where exercise may be a risk. If you’re unsure, ask your GP.

You’re responsible for exercising within your own limits and stopping when you need to.

Your records and privacy

How I handle your information is set out in the privacy notice. In short: it’s confidential, I don’t sell it, and I keep clinical records for the period required of me.

Your report and programme

Your report, plan and any programme are for you. You’re welcome to share them with your GP, physiotherapist, coach or anyone else involved in your care.

Please don’t republish, resell or distribute them more widely. They’re written for one person’s circumstances and could be actively unhelpful applied to someone else. Copyright in the materials stays with me.

Liability

Nothing here limits my liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn’t permit me to limit. That can’t be signed away and I’m not trying to.

Beyond that, and to the extent the law allows:

  • My total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the service in question
  • I’m not liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as missed races, lost earnings or travel costs
  • I’m not liable for outcomes arising from inaccurate or incomplete information you gave me

None of this affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

If something goes wrong

Tell me. Email hello@backintherunning.co.uk and I’ll respond within 5 working days. Most things are a misunderstanding and can be sorted quickly.

If you’re not satisfied, you can raise it with The ISRM complaints procedure.

Changes to these terms

I may update these terms. The version that applies to you is the one in force when you booked.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you can bring proceedings in your own country’s courts.
